From a text box to an individual word
After automatic OCR recognizes a region, click its box. The learning panel shows the text and breaks it into selectable vocabulary. Choose a word to see possible dictionary entries and kana readings.
A bubble may contain several words, and Japanese does not put spaces between them. Automatic segmentation and dictionary-form matching can help, but unusual names, casual dialogue and OCR mistakes may need a corrected query.
Readings and meanings, with context still in view
The built-in dictionary uses JMdict English entries, with Japanese tokenization to help locate words. Results can include different senses, spellings and homophones. Read the sentence and choose the entry that fits instead of treating the first gloss as a complete translation.
For example, 学校 has the reading がっこう and means school. Try gakkou in the Dictionary view if typing kana is inconvenient. Japanese, romaji, common inflections and long-vowel variations are supported.
Hear it and decide whether to save it
Press Listen on a dictionary entry to hear its listed Japanese reading through an installed local speech voice. You can also listen to selected text. Playback is click-triggered; it never starts just because you open a page.
Mark an unfamiliar word Learn, mark a familiar one Known, or choose Ignore for an unhelpful result. Saved vocabulary can be reviewed in the app and exported. See voice requirements before relying on audio on a new device.
Use lookup to support immersion
It is easy to spend a whole session collecting definitions. Try looking up words that explain the scene or recur across several pages, then reread the dialogue. A few useful discoveries can be enough for one session.
Our learning guide offers a practical reading routine. CenjiReader combines the tools, while you decide how much help each page needs.
Your searches stay local
The app downloads its public dictionary resources before lookup and matches queries on your device. Your words, recognized text and saved vocabulary are not sent to an external dictionary API. Read the privacy page for storage, downloads and backup details.
