WHY CENJIREADER?

Stay with the story.

Japanese learners often move between a manga reader, an OCR tool, a dictionary and a vocabulary app. Each switch takes attention away from the scene.

CenjiReader brings those tools into one manga-focused interface. Check a reading, save a useful word, then return to the page. You choose how much help each scene needs.

BEFORE YOU OPEN A BOOK

A few useful answers.

What is CenjiReader?

CenjiReader is a free, browser-based Japanese manga reader with OCR, a built-in dictionary, readings, pronunciation and vocabulary tracking. It brings reading and lookup into one interface.

Does CenjiReader provide manga?

No. CenjiReader is a reading tool, not a manga library or hosting site. Bring your own legally obtained PDF, DRM-free AZW3, CBZ, ZIP or supported image files.

Is CenjiReader free?

Yes. Reading, OCR, dictionary lookup and vocabulary tools are free. Donations are optional and do not unlock features.

Does CenjiReader upload my manga?

No. Your files and learning data stay in this browser on your device. The website downloads public application files, dictionaries and OCR models; it does not receive your manga or search terms.

Can it detect Japanese text from manga?

Yes. Automatic local OCR detects text and adds clickable regions, including vertical Japanese. Stylized lettering, small furigana and complex page layouts can be misread or missed. You can correct text or select a missed area manually.

Can I use it to learn Japanese?

CenjiReader can support reading practice with dictionary meanings, readings, Listen buttons and saved vocabulary. It works best alongside grammar study and listening practice; it does not promise fluency from manga alone.

What do I need to get started?

Use a modern desktop Chrome or Edge browser and your own manga file. The first OCR use downloads about 467 MiB of models and runtime, plus separate dictionary resources. Allow them to finish before reading offline. Audio requires an installed local Japanese speech voice.
